German you can actually say

Practise them here first, as many times as you need.

No placement test. It works this out while you talk.

It starts where you are

You do not start at chapter one. It listens to how you talk for a few minutes, then teaches from what you already know.

Three answers on day one. The rest it picked up.

Built around your life

You have a job, a city and people you talk to every week. The lessons are built out of those, so you practise the German you are going to need.

A small world to practise in

A colleague, a friend, a neighbour, a waiter. They remember what you told them last time and they talk the same way every time. Say the awkward thing here three times, and the real one is no longer the first time.

Warum warst du gestern nicht da? Why weren’t you there yesterday?
Ich war krank, weil ich hatte Fieber. You said it. She understood you.
weil
weil ich Fieber hatte After weil, the verb goes last. Noted, not marked wrong. It comes back on Thursday.

Different ways to practise

Talking, listening, reading and writing are four different things. Practise only one of them and you stay stuck in the other three, so each session picks the kind of practice you need next.

Conversation

Somebody talks back, and remembers what you told them last time.

Noch einen Kaffee?
speakingwriting
Call

No text on the screen. A voice, at the speed people actually talk.

Grammar

One new shape at a time, with the words you would actually use it on.

Perfekt mit seinMovement and change take sein.
writing
Words

The ones that are fading come back inside something you are saying.

die RechnungBack for the fourth time, and it stuck.

Story

Someone tells you about their week, then asks you two questions.

Am Samstag bin ich zum Flohmarkt …

Role-play

The appointment, the complaint, the awkward one. Before the real one.

Wann passt es Ihnen?
listening

News, messages and interviews are in there too.

Four skills, not one

You might read German easily and still need a moment to answer out loud. Here you practise all four, and each one moves at its own pace.

SpeakingFind your words and keep the conversation going.
ListeningGet used to different voices and everyday speech.
ReadingFollow a story, a message or a piece of news.
WritingPut what you mean into a message of your own.
